Village Postbox

Update - new postbox has not yet been installed.  I have contacted Royal Mail but had no reply so far.  Still no update                                                                         14 December 2015

The postbox on the wall of what was the Village Shop and Post Office has now been closed.  However, we have been informed that Royal Mail are in the process of arranging for a new pedestal style box to be installed in a nearby location by the end of September.

The promised Outreach Post Office Service  has not yet been progressed as there are discussions in the village about a possible Community Shop.

Darley Debs go to the Palace
June 2nd  2015

A group of Darley ladies got dressed up in their

finery and headed for Buckingham Palace recently. They are members of the newly formed Women's Institute Branch in Darley - Darley Debs and were attending the Garden Party to mark the Centenary of the Institute. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Sophie, Countess of Wessex were the hosts.  And a good time was had by all!

Darley Post Office Services
Update May 7th 2015

The Parish Council and members of CCCC Management Committee have now met with Post Office Limited and the expected operator of the Outreach Service. Darley Playing Fields Pavilion was also visited.
Details are still to be finalised, but it is expected that an Outreach Post Office service will be established in CCCC for 2 sessions each week, each lasting 2 hours. All normal Post Office services will be available.
It is hoped that the service will start in a few months. Further information will be posted as available.
Expressions of interest in future plans are still welcomed.  Please contact the Clerk

Darley Post Office and Shop
10th March 2015

Regrettably the shop and Post Office in Darley has now closed and is very unlikely to re-open in the near future.
Actions are therefore being taken to provide some sort of postal service and possibly provision of basic food items. Post Office Limited are committed to setting up an OUtreach Postal Service in the village for two half days per week, which will be operated by a local postmaster, and recruitment/selecetion is underway. The Parish Council is now working with community groups to find the best location, and it is hoped that other services such as refreshments, a place to talk, and sale of basic foodstuffs can also be offered. Once the operator and location are agreed, there will be a further delay while essential electric and phone lines are installed, but it is hoped that the service may be established in Summer 2015.

Longer term, if the village is keen to maintain or expand the services, then the idea of a Community Shop could be explored. This will require a group of committed individuals to get together, apply for grants, deal with possible building or fitting out of premises and then arrange for volunteers to stock and operate it. If you want to see some sort of shop in the village and would like to be one of these individuals, please get in touch with the Clerk, who will put you in touch with others who are committed to the idea. The future is yours!
