This long-standing village group is responsible for looking after flowers in the village. It has achieved considerable success in competitions over the past 20 years, being voted the best Large Village in Yorkshire several times. In 2006 it was again the Best Large Yorkshire Village and then went on to win the accolade of Best Large Village in the UK in 2007. In 2008 it competed in the Champion of Champions competition, against other category winners such as cities and coastal towns. Darley achieved a Gold Award, and was second overall only to Nottingham. It has not competed since then, but continues to look after the boxes and tubs and borders in the village. During 2018/19 all the boxes were replaced.
The group also organises social events as fund raisers. These have included Gardeners' Question Time events, plays, dances and quizes. The "Open Gardens" events in 2018 and 2022 attracted several hundred local enthusiasts (see photos below). In April 2018 the group arranged a Murder Mystery Evening.
Another way of supporting Darley in Bloom is to buy a ticket in The Local Lotto. This allows users to specify where 50% of their ticket money goes - and over 20 people have signed up to donate to Darley in Bloom. This will bring income of over £500 per year into the organisation, and is much appreciated. If you wish to buy tickets, please click this link and make sure you select Darley in Bloom.
The Chairman since April 2016 is Peter Dransfield who can be contacted via 780054.
